Condolence: I had the great privilege of having Professor Hill in just one of my Mechanical Engineering courses at UMaine. He was an EXCELLENT teacher, charismatic and easy to learn from, he clearly LOVED what he did. A brilliant man for certain. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. 😟

Condolence From: Nick Dann
Condolence: The world has lost one of the finest men I ever knew. I cannot begin to tell you how Dick Hill influenced my mechanical engineering career. There was never a moment that I did not think of him as I was making design decisions. UMO will miss him.

One thing that should be mentioned is that Dick also helped us out financially in a small way. He was always having projects done around his house, for which he enlisted us students and paid us a small hourly wage to help us out. For me, it was assembling a catch basin in his driveway. And, even those were teaching moments for Dick. As we walked through his house, he point out why things were done the way they were, like the homemade steel reinforcment in his foundation work. As we assembled the catch basin, he'd point out the intricacies of the design and say "you know why the do it that way?"

I'll never forget this man, and I think I'll go find my 'Dick Hill' pajama party T-shirt and wear it today in his honor.
