The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of George Potter can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Real Coffee

I am a friend of George's daughter, Barbara.  We were College schoolmates at Zion Bible Institute about 130 years ago.  I went home with her for one of the school vacations - to her parent's house in Bangor.  I am a coffee drinker but the family was not.  When I asked for a cup of coffee in the morning, George told me they did not have a coffee maker in the house.  He did, however, have coffee. (I could never figure out why he had coffee, but anyway)

He said that when he was in the service, they would boil water in a pot, throw a handful of coffee grinds in, let it boil for a while then use a strainer to remove the coffee grinds.  He asked me if I'd be willing to have my coffee made THAT way.  "Sure," I said.  How bad could it be?

It was actually pretty good.  So for the rest of the vacation, George made coffee for me that way every morning.
