He was Something Else

David and I met Bill and Debra on a weeklong bicycle ride in Florida in the spring of 1998. Lucky for us, we heard Bill speak early in the week, which gave me time to get my courage up to introduce myself to him. I was shy and wasn’t sure what I wanted to say. I just knew I had to talk to him more. His story was fascinating. But more than that, it was just Bill. He radiated love. I met him the next day on the road with Debra on their tandem. I rode up to them and started talking. I believe we rode together most of the rest of the day. I had known I wanted to talk to Bill, but I never expected to love Debra as well. I introduced them to my husband David, later that night. We have been fast friends ever since. I know Bill is in a wonderful place now. I won’t cry for him. But I do cry for the people who loved him. He was something else.
