A Blind Guy Can't do That

One year at the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee I was sitting across from Bill and Debra at a picnic table after the days ride. To my left was a lady who was explaining to us about the entertainment for the evening. She said the blind guy was going to speak. Bill of course who had very few mannerisms of a blind person had to ask “what blind guy?" Her explanation was about how he hiked the Appalachian Trail with his dog and she was excited that she was about to hear him speak. Bill told her in no uncertain terms that it was a big lie because a blind person couldn’t do it. She was very adamant that indeed he had done it. Bill kept arguing with her that it was all a scam until she turned to me and asked, “Who is that guy?” My only reply was “He is the blind guy”. She blushed and we all had a good laugh. One of the things I always liked about Bill was his quick wit and sense of humor. David Drye
