Bangor, Mobile, AL

Richard Matthew Flanagan, aged 101, a native of Bangor, Maine, and resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. He is preceded in death by his spouse of 69 years, Frances L. Flanagan; his parents, James E. Flanagan and Mary Holland; four brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his son, James H. Flanagan (Patricia), of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, James H. Flanagan, Jr. (Nicole), of Geismar, LA, Kelly Evans (John), of Richmond, TX, Michael B. Flanagan (Lindsey), of St. Louis, MO, and Matthew L. Flanagan, of Walla Walla, WA; four great-grandchildren, Leighton, Claire, and John Patrick Flanagan, and Carys Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was a 1940 graduate of Spring Hill College, and served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during WWII. He worked for Western Electric (AT&T) until his retirement in 1979. A former resident of Manchester, CT Richard lived in Mobile, AL for the past 9 years. The family is extremely
grateful for Richard’s caregivers/sitters –Jeanne, Earnestine, and Stella, and to the St. Dominic Catholic School children who brightened many of his days.

The family requests that those wishing to remember Richard in a special way may contribute in his memory to Catholic Charities, 1066 Kenduskeag Ave., Bangor, ME. 04401 or to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Wednesday May 16, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St. Bangor. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio St., Bangor.
