Rev. William H. “Billy” Washington, 98, went home to be with his Lord, July 19, 2014. He was born in Central Falls, R.I., February 4, 1916, son of Robert G. and Elizabeth (Dailey) Washington.
Billy graduated from Zion Bible Institute in 1937, after which he began evangelistic services with his twin brother, Eddie. The two were known as the Sunshine Twins.
In 1945 he married and settled in Bangor and worked as a carpenter for 30 years, while continuing evangelistic work with his wife.
Surviving are his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret (Goode) Washington; seven children, Barbara Ortiz and her husband, David; Billie Washington and his wife Debbie; Judy Howard; Brenda Myree and her husband, Jerome; Lorraine King and her husband Gerald; Randy Washington and his wife, Terri; Barry Washington and his wife, Roxanne; one sister Shirley Rodrigues; a sister-in-law, Arvella Washington; former daughter-in-law, Julie Washington; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild.
Billy was predeceased by a son-in-law, Charles Howard, and a brother, Robert and twin Eddie.
Funeral services will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday July 23, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to call 4 p.m. until time of service Wednesday. The family invites folks to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service.
