Dr. Timothy Francis Rockcress, 67, passed away after a long struggle with frontotemporal dementia on March 30, 2026, at a Bangor, Maine, memory care facility. Born on March 10, 1959 in Seymour, Indiana, to Phillip Nodurft and Jeanette Kiger, Tim lived an abundant life marked by dedication, adventure, creativity and a passion for learning.
Tim graduated from Wheeling Park High School in Wheeling, West Virginia. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1978 to 1984, at which time he was honorably discharged as a sergeant. This period of military service focused his sense of curiosity and discipline. During his time in the Air Force, he broadened his horizons by exploring the outdoors and challenging his natural intellect, expanding his vocabulary and comprehension skills with the encouragement of his officers. Tim's academic journey continued at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology before pursuing his Doctor of Medicine. Upon graduation, Tim completed his internship in Family Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, Fresno campus. He then completed his specialized training in Psychiatry at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland.
Tim thrived in his career in Psychiatry, working with many types of patients, including the homeless in Baltimore with Health Care for the Homeless, veterans with the VA Hospital in Boise, Idaho, and the rural population of Maine at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, before landing at Acadia Hospital in Bangor. In addition to direct patient care, he was a natural educator, sharing his insights with medical students, residents, hospital staff and patients and their families.
Tim was a person who embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. Whether kayaking the rivers of Idaho or mastering the art of blacksmithing in Maine, he approached every opportunity with an open heart and an adventurous spirit. He delighted in watching his children thrive and soar into adulthood. He was a lifelong chef, inventing fabulous dishes with whatever ingredients were available. He was an intuitive artist at all times, while painting in oils and watercolors, sketching in charcoal or doodling on whiteboards with a dry erase marker. His wide grin and zest for life left an indelible impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
Tim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Beth Deacon Rockcress; his beloved son, Alexander Deacon Rockcress and daughter-in-law, Marissa Rockcress, of Lunenburg, Massachusetts; his beloved daughter, Olivia Hallie Rockcress of Portland, Maine; his siblings, David Nodurft (Patricia), Patrice Drake (late Robert), Michael Nodurft (Sandi), Gregory Nodurft (Mimi), Catherine Massimiani (late Mark), Joseph Nodurft (Jiyeong), and Christopher Nodurft (Ayo Asekun); and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Patricia Deacon of Florida; in addition to many cherished nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Phillip Nodurft and Jeanette Kiger; as well as his brother, Phillip Nodurft.
The family would like to thank the staff of Winterberry Heights for their care and compassion.
Tim's legacy is one of warmth, resilience, and joyous appreciation for life's opportunities. His memory will live on within the hearts of those who called him a friend. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, Maine and will be accessible via livestream. The family invites friends and relatives to share conversation, recollections and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, immediately following the service.
