Takeji Smith

Hermon - By the grace of God, Takeji H. Smith, 90, reunited with her husband, CWO Percival H. Smith, on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Takeji was born in Yamanashi, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, on March 4, 1935, to her parents Yoshikazu and Kesaji Hirayama.

Takeji and "Smitty" met when he was stationed in Japan. After marrying in 1956, she came to America the following year and was naturalized as a US citizen in 1968. Takeji and Smitty retired to Maine in 1974 with their four children, where they became gardeners. Both were also skilled anglers and avid bowling enthusiasts, but most importantly, they shared a deep love for cats, having raised several generations over the past 50 years.

The burial will take place at Snow's Corner Cemetery in Hermon in the spring. The family wish to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for the kindness and respect they showed during Takeji's last days.
