Hampden -Susan Patricia Clement passed away at her home on August 5, 2025. She was born on January 3, 1940 in Bangalore, India, the daughter of John Steele and Esther (McDonald) Martinson. She was brought up and educated in England and subsequently lived and worked in London, Brussels, Toronto and New York. She and her husband, 'Clem', were married in Lewes, Sussex, England in 1973. They moved to Hingham, Massachusetts in 1974 where she was employed as an editorial assistant by the Survey of Ophthalmology in Boston. She moved to Brooklin, Maine, in 1978 with her husband, where they purchased the General Store and ran it until it was sold in 1986. Having sold the business, she then had more time for her favorite pastime, reading, and she spent many happy hours in the Friend Memorial Library, a lot of them volunteering. She and her husband also ran a small market garden business from their home in Brooklin. In the fall of 2000, they moved to Hampden, Maine where she made many wonderful friends and became a devoted patron of the Edythe Dyer Library. She leaves behind several cousins and many friends in England, the U.S., and elsewhere.
Per her request, there will be no services. Interment will be at Rainbow's End Cemetery in Orrington, Maine.
