November 16, 1981 — November 27, 2025

Shannon E. Pettit, 44, passed away from complications of peritoneal mesothelioma on November 28, 2025, at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, ME. She was born November 16, 1981, in Bangor, the daughter of James A. and Susan J. (Albert) Deveau.

Shannon was raised in Houlton, where she graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 2000. Following graduation, she attended the University of Maine, Orono, graduating in 2004 with a B.A. in Psychology, Minor in Native American Studies. In 2005, Shannon married D. Wesley Pettit, formerly of South Carolina. They celebrated 20 years of marriage in August, 2025. In 2007, she graduated from UMaine again with a Masters in Social Work. She settled in Alton with Wesely in late 2007, where she has served on the Town of Alton Budget Committee for the past few years. In 2019 Shannon joined the Board of Directors of Design Wall Housing, a local non-profit that assists the homeless in acquiring shelter by renovating housing units in the Bangor area.

Surviving in addition to her husband, D. Wesley Pettit; are her daughters, Karlee Aryah and Andraya Jordyn Pettit, both of Alton; her father, James Deveau, of Houlton; her brother, Daniel Deveau and his wife, Jessica, of Littleton; one niece and many nephews. Shannon is predeceased by her mother, Susan; and her brother, Joseph.

There will be a three-day Sacred Fire Ceremony beginning Friday, 12/5 in Houlton, hosted by the Houton Band of Maliseet Indians at their Elder Center for anyone, friend or family, that may want to pay respects. The family also invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at a Celebration of Life Get-Together on Sunday 12/7 at 12pm (noon) at the Black Bear Inn, 4 Godfrey Drive, Orono.
