Schuyler Colfax Burrill

Schuyler "Sky" Colfax Burrill, 83, of Corinth, Maine, went home to be with Jesus on August 8, 2026, following a long and fulfilling life devoted to his faith, his family, his country, and serving others.

Sky was born on December 27, 1942. At just 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Gyatt the world's first guided missile destroyer. While stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, he met the love of his life, Rebecca "Jackie" and they were married on August 28, 1963. For Sky, Jackie was much more than his wife. She was his companion, his partner, and the person beside him through all the adventures, joys, challenges, and seasons of life. Together, they built a life filled with faith, family, and memories that will remain treasured by those who knew them.

Sky is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca "Jackie" Burrill; his daughter, Cecelia "Cissy" Burrill; his daughter-in-law, Linda Luellen; and his three grandchildren, John Luellen, Josh Luellen, and Christina (Luellen) Trefts and was predeceased by his son, Michael Luellen.

Sky had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed amateur radio, where he was known by his call sign K1JGO, flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, photography, and spending time off-grid with family at their cabin on Upper Oxbrook Lake. He also had a gift for creating beautiful wood carvings, working patiently with his hands to turn pieces of wood into something lasting and beautiful.

Sky spent his life helping others, healing hearts, and pointing people toward Jesus. His faith was not simply something he talked about-it was the foundation of how he lived. He served as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader, pastored a church at Back Bay in New Brunswick, Canada, and worked alongside Pastor Ronnie Libby at Charleston Church. His time at Faith Bible College was another important part of his life as he helped mentor future spiritual leaders. The seeds he planted in the lives of his congregation, mentees, and youth group, are evident in the fact that during his illness, they reached out from around the country to let him know how he influenced their lives forever and his impact has lasted for decades.

To know Sky was, in many ways, to be taught by him. He had a gift for sharing a truth in just a few words-usually words you would remember long after the conversation was over. Sky was known for his one-liners and lessons, and those who knew him can probably still hear his voice saying them.

"If enough people tell you you're a horse, you should go buy a saddle."

"God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason."

"If you are early, you are on time. If you are on time, you are late."

And when it came to hard work and making a difference, he would remind people, "It's not how long you're in the field, but how many beans you pick."

These sayings were more than clever words. They reflected the man Sky was. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into something extraordinary. A conversation could become a life lesson. A story could become wisdom. A simple observation could stay with you for years. And beneath all those lessons was one truth that mattered most to him: Jesus.

Sky wanted people to know that they were loved. He wanted them to find healing for the hurts they carried. He wanted them to have hope. Most of all, he wanted them to know the Savior he loved and to find their way to heaven.

After a lifetime of loving his family, helping others, teaching lessons, and pointing people toward heaven, Sky has reached the destination he talked about so often.

He is home with Jesus.

For those who loved Sky, there will be an empty place now-a chair, a voice, a story, a familiar piece of advice that will no longer come in quite the same way. He will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Charleston Church, 185 Main Rd., Charleston, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 13, 2026. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Graveside committal will be held at 3:30 pm at the Fairview Cemetery, Hartland Rd, Canaan.
