Sara Jane Smith, 90, wife of the late Vernon G. Smith, passed away July 7, 2025. She was born in Eddington, September 10, 1934, the daughter of George H. and Evangeline P. (Haycock) Knox.

Sara was employed as a cook at Holbrook School for many years. After retirement she enjoyed many winters in Florida, where she started line dancing which brought her great joy.

She dearly loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons, Irvin and his wife, Laurie, Jeffery and his wife, Cindy, and Russell; grandchildren, Brent, Tyler, Samantha and her wife, Lou, Jason, Kimberly and her husband, Tim, Rachel, Emily and Nick ; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Taylor and Kathryn; great, great grandchildren, Maverick , Everly and one on the way; a sister, Pauline Williamson; special cousin, Bernard Byther.

She was predeceased by sons, Andrew and Gregg; granddaughter, Erin, brother George "Bub" Knox, sisters, Doris Spencer and Charlene Rockwell.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Phillips Strickland, St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor Nursing and Rehab. and Bristol Hospice, for their compassion and care of Sara.

The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 2 pm to 4 pm Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
