HERMON – Sally B. Thompson went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2014. She was born on June 10, 1944 to Leroy E. and Esther M. Bartlett.
Sally’s schooling began in a one room school house in Hermon. This was a wonderful time for her, with fond memories of the wood stove keeping them warm, and practicing fire drills by going out the window.
Sally started working at age 14, collecting entrance fees at Jackson Beach. She than began waitressing at Aunt Molly’s restaurant. She moved on to work for the Bangor Daily News, and then started her career with the City of Bangor. During the 32 years of service with the City, and with a wide variety of jobs, titles, and positions, she retired as Human Resources Manager. After retirement, she spent many years working during tax season at H&R Block in Bangor. Sally spent several years in community service as a Hermon Town Councilor, and also as an EMT on the Hermon Rescue Squad. She enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling, reading, and playing cards.
She is survived by two children and their spouses that she loved dearly, daughter, Laurie and her husband Brent Bridge, and son, Dale and his wife Jenna Thompson, two grandsons, Dylan and Austin Thompson, of whom she was very proud; a sister, Carolyne and her husband David Voglesonger of Torrington, CT; many nieces and nephews; best friends Diane Herring and Nancy Hart, who have become Chi Chi’s new Mommies; many friends that she cherished at H&R Block; and her beloved dog Chi Chi and cat, Cici.
A Memorial Reception will be held 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the IOOF Lodge #119, 31 Billings Rd., Hermon.
