Glenburn - Rupert George Lyon Jr., 90, passed peacefully in his sleep at home on October 30, 2025. He was born November 26, 1934, the son of Rupert and Anne Lyon of Orono.
Rupert grew up in Orono and graduated from Orono High School in 1953, where he excelled at sports; lettering in 5 varsity sports all four years. The following September, he married his high school sweetheart, Muriel Ann Beaulieu. They were blessed with a 65-year marriage and a beautiful family. Rupert and Muriel raised their two children, Margot and Mark, in the Orono area and eventually retired to their "little slice of Heaven" on Pushaw Lake.
Rupert was known as one of the best mechanics around, having a career lasting over 40 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the local senior tournaments. He almost always spent the month of November in the Maine woods hunting with his son and grandsons. It was a true passion of his.
In addition to his parents, Rupert was predeceased by his wife, Muriel; his daughter, Margot Getchell; and his five sisters, Rose, Ethel, Pat, Theresa and Jeanine. He is survived by his son, Rupert Mark and his wife, Janet; son-in-law, Donald Getchell; his grandchildren, Matthew, Michelle, Mark, Daniel and Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Braeden, Charlotte, Penelope, and Parker.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 10am-12PM, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held at 12pm, followed by the Rite of Committal at Riverside Cemetery, Bennoch Road, Orono.
