Carmel - Roberta Perley, 85, was born to Drs. Charlie and Sally Simpson on August 27, 1940. "Bobbie" grew up in Newport, Maine, where she made many lifelong friends, and continued to do so later on when she attended Higgins Classical Institute for high school.
After graduating, she earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Maine, then continued to become a teacher. She taught many, many children over her 26 years at Carmel Elementary School. She was very invested in her students and kept up-to-date on their lives for years after she taught them. We challenge any of her previous third-grade students to not remember Mrs. Perley.
Bobbie spent every summer working for family friends at the Pool Shed in Hampden, where she loved to meet the members of her community as customers.
After her career as a teacher, Bobbie worked at W.S. Emerson in Brewer until 1995, where she made numerous dear friends. In her retirement, she was dedicated and proud of the Carmel Union Congregational Church (CUCC) and the basement peanut brittle enterprise. She commandeered countless church fairs.
Bobbie was predeceased by her parents; special Aunt "Bun", Connie Parent; and her son, Allen. She is survived by her son, Robbie and his wife, Sonia, and children, Kayla, Dillion, Nathen and Autumn, and Allen's children, Sarah and Emily. She is also survived by her brother, Johnny Simpson and his wife, Doreen, of Carmel, and children, Bill and Stephanie.
Friends and relatives are welcome to attend her service at 9 a.m. on August 15, 2026, at CUCC, located at 37 Plymouth Rd, Carmel. In lieu of flowers, any donations would be graciously accepted by CUCC at PO Box 111, Carmel, Maine, 04419.
Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
