CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE - Robert B. "Skip" Smaha, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Portland, Maine, surrounded by family.
Born on February 19, 1947, in Portland, Maine, Skip was the son of Albert H. Smaha and Jeanne M. (Brooks) Smaha. He grew up spending summers on Sebago Lake and developed a lifelong love of the water and outdoors. A nationally ranked water skier in his younger years, he later enjoyed boating, fishing, skiing, and spending time with family and friends on Moosehead Lake.
Bob earned his BA from the University of Maine and an MBA from Indiana University. He enjoyed a successful career spanning more than 40 years in real estate development and commercial banking throughout Maine and New Hampshire. While his success was certainly built on hard work and determination, it was also his remarkable ability to connect with people that set him apart. Bob had a natural gift for building lasting relationships, earning people's trust, and bringing energy and laughter wherever he went. His personality could fill a room and bring people together. He will be remembered as kind, compassionate, generous, and truly larger than life.
Bob's life was defined by the deep love he had for his family. He was previously married to Carole E. (Wengel) Smaha, with whom he shared three children: Sara, Susan, and Ben. He later married Dianne Smaha and proudly stepped into the role of stepfather, helping to raise her daughter, Audrey, from the age of 12. Together, Bob and Dianne spent 19 years building a life filled with family, love, friendship, and adventure.
Bob took immense pride in watching his children grow and become the wonderful people they are today. He treasured his role as a father, stepfather, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, and family was always at the heart of his life.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dianne Smaha; his three children, Sara Jones (Scott), Susan Smaha, Ben Smaha; his stepdaughter, Audrey Moulton (Jake), and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Morgan, Lauren, Dylan, Zach, and Nolan; his beloved aunt, Emily "Sis" Delmonaco; siblings, Sandra Conaboy, Kathryn Smaha, Gregory Smaha; brothers- in-law, Andrew Pierce (Trang) and Michael Conaboy (Emmi); mother-in-law, Margarete Pierce; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Skip was predeceased by his beloved Aunt Norma and Uncle Don.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
