Richard 'Flash' Gordon, 84, died on February 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 16, 1941, the son of Harry and Arlene Gordon of Pittsfield, Maine.
Richard graduated from MCI in 1959. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy, where he was deployed on the USS Nautilus. After an honorable discharge, he continued his education at Springfield College. After completing his degree in physical education, he went on to receive a degree in physical therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. He had a long and varied career as a physical therapist. He began as an athletic trainer working at St. Joseph's University and at the University of Pennsylvania. He eventually opened his own practice in New Jersey. Later in life, he returned to his home state of Maine, where he worked for Waldo County Home Health for many years.
Richard was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Maine. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and a smile wherever and whenever he was needed. Through his work with St. Paul the Apostle Parish, he administered home communion to residents at Ross Manor nursing home, St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor, and homebound parishioners in the Bangor area. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garden, taking care of the deer and other wildlife that visited his feeders regularly, playing hide-and-seek with his grandchildren, and visiting his local Dairy Queen.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 29 years, Annette Gordon, are his daughters, Rebecca and her husband, Michael, of Cranbury, New Jersey, Deborah Troughton and her husband, Dion, of Riverside, New Jersey; his son, Jason Long; his grandchildren, Brandon, Noah, Christina, Danielle, and Ryan; two brothers, Mike and his wife, Mary, and Skip Gordon; his sister, Carole Kershner; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Marty; and his son, Andy.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 4-6 pm, Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden Maine. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 70 Western Avenue, Hampden, Maine. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the reception area of St. Matthew's immediately following the service. Interment will be held privately.
