After working at Sleepers in Bangor for many years, Richard became the owner of the Neighborhood Market on the east side of Bangor, a store well known and a local hangout for East Side families. Richard was a proud member of the Catholic Church and spent many years volunteering at the Catholic Health Ministry at St. Joseph's Hospital, often dedicating numerous hours to serving those in need, including patients and their families.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Loretta (Flynn) Knappe; and brothers, Donald Knappe and Arthur Knappe.
