DEDHAM - Richard E. Cyr, 88, died peacefully surrounded by family while in his favorite spot at home overlooking Phillips Lake, September 15, 2025. He was born August 22, 1937, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the son of Alfred C. Cyr and Bertha L. (Piirainen) Cyr.
Richard attended Brewer High School and the University of Maine, Orono. He served honorably as Private 1st Class in the Army 69th infantry division during the Korean war where he was stationed in Bordeaux, France. During his service he became proficient in French and returned to France to visit several times. Following his service, he married the love of his life, Mary Sheila Clark and they settled in Bangor.
They celebrated 62 years of marriage in July. Richard belonged to the Bangor Kiwanis club, was an active member of Saint John's Catholic Church in Bangor. He began his work career as a manager of the Columbia market in Bangor, and subsequently became a successful pharmaceutical salesman for Bangor Drug Company and J.E. Gould in Portland. Richard won many awards during his career including the first in Maine to break the million dollar a month sales mark.
Richard loved military history, golfing, dancing, music but mostly he loved wheeling and dealing, buying and selling items. His yard sales on McKinley Street in Bangor became legendary. He once set the record for the most profitable yard sale in the history of Bangor.
Richard's biggest love was his wife, children, and grandchildren. They often gathered to celebrate all of life's moments making lasting memories. Most enjoyable, were the times spent on the deck overlooking Phillips Lake and on the beach in Longboat Harbour, Florida.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary Sheila (Clark), are his daughter, Michelle Jane (Cyr) Taylor, of Dedham, Mary Colleen (Cyr) Parvin, and her husband, John, of Gorham, Christopher Richard Cyr, and his wife, Patricia, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Gig", Ty Taylor, Maxwell Taylor, Samuel Taylor, Peter Taylor, Gilman Taylor, Stephen Matoian, Aiden Matoian, Ashley Parvin, and Shannon Cyr and siblings, Alfred "Joe" Cyr, Robert Cyr, Ida Martin, Walter Cyr, and Katherine Lawson. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sisters, Eleanor Beaudoin, Caroline Raterman, Constance Cyr, Norma Fischer, and Wanda Buell; brother-in-law, James Clark Jr.; father-in-law, James H. Clark Sr., and mother-in-law, Helena F. Clark.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 4-6p.m., Monday, September 22, 2025, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00a.m., Tuesday, September 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor, followed by a celebration of Richard's life at his home, 131 Pine Trail, Dedham. The Rite of Committal will be prayed in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor at a later date.
