Richard Michael Burr

Richard "Dickie" M. Burr, 80, died peacefully on August 22, 2026. He was born December 5, 1945, the son of Vernon and Marjorie (Costigan) Burr. Dickie graduated from Old Town High School in 1964 and later enlisted in the United States Army in 1965. He spent part of his service in Germany, working as a communications specialist during the Vietnam War.

Shortly after returning home, Dickie began working for New England Telephone Company, where he met the love of his life, Marsha. They married on June 5, 1971, and celebrated 55 years of marriage this past June. Dickie worked hard throughout his life to take care of his family, allowing Marsha to stay home and raise their three children.

When he wasn't working, Dickie enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved playing cards, golfing, going dancing, reading westerns, watching "his shows," and, of course, drinking his Bud Light. He also loved going out to eat, with breakfast being his favorite meal. Dickie and Marsha visited just about every breakfast joint within an hour of their home, often venturing out with their good friends, Cal and Sandy.

Many Sundays were spent around the table with his sister, brother, and nieces playing poker. Family, good friends, a good meal, a deck of cards, and a cold Bud Light were some of the things that made Dickie happiest.

In addition to his parents, Dickie was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Burr; mother-in-law, Charlene Morse; father-in-law, Laurence Morse; brothers-in-law, Victor Cyr and Tom Misner; and his nephew, Richard Burr.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Marsha, who took care of him until the very end; his children, Michael Burr of Carmel, Marcie Barbarula and husband, Brad, of Mapleton, and Morgan Frost and husband, Adam, of Amherst; his grandson, Waylon Burr; his sister, Judy Cyr of Milford; and sister-in-law, Renae Misner of Waterville. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

He was fortunate to have many special friends throughout his life, all of whom were a tremendous source of support, especially during his illness. Among them were Cal and Sandy McKay, John Deluck, Tommy and Sheila Torrey, Ronnie and Holly Jarvis, and Danny and Darlene Wilson.

At Dickie's request, there will be no viewing or big funeral. Instead, he requested that we have a "party," and that's just what we'll do. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, at Highland Cemetery in Carmel, with a brief graveside ceremony and military honors. Following the burial, please join us at the Carmel Snowmobile Club 194 Hampden Rd. Carmel, ME, to remember him with food, and, of course, a Bud Light.

The family wishes to thank everyone who has helped us navigate this journey over the past several years. We are especially grateful to Visiting Angels, Dr. Shulman, and the compassionate staff at St. Joe's Hospital, all of whom took such wonderful care of Dad throughout his Alzheimer's journey. We will forever be grateful for the kindness, compassion, and support they showed him and our family.
