Rebecca 'Becky' Amsden, 70, died March 10, 2026, at an Orono nursing home following a severe brain bleed suffered in late January. She was born March 2, 1956, in Caribou, Maine, to Perham and Marilyn Amsden.

Becky graduated from Brewer High School and then from the University of Maine at Orono with a BA in Political Science and Business. She began her work career as a caseworker in Senator William Cohen's Portland office. While there, she was credited with discovering that hundreds of disabled people throughout Maine were being ruled ineligible for Social Security benefits. This ultimately led to passage of the bipartisan Cohen-Levin bill in 1984 to rectify the situation.

Later, Becky worked as a Premium Accounting Manager at Unum in Maine for 14 years, as Finance & Planning Director for Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful in Georgia for 8 years, as Administrative Manager and Plant Controller at Graham Packaging in Pennsylvania for 5 years, and as Administrative Assistant at Bangor International Airport for nearly 6 years. She retired in 2022.

Becky remained active in retirement. She worked part-time in Guest Services at Cross Insurance Center and volunteered at the Durgin Center. Over the years, she was an active member of Hammond Street Congregational Church and more recently at All Souls Congregational Church. She enjoyed a good mystery novel and working in her garden, and she was a life-long Boston Red Sox fan.

Becky is survived by sister, Deborah Amsden Micklos; and brother, David Amsden; as well as nieces, Jennifer Amsden, Halleigh (Amsden) Duff, Amy Micklos; nephew, John Micklos III; along with grandnieces, Marilyn Quick, Alice Quick, and Cecelia Duff.

Gifts in Becky's memory may be sent to All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway, Bangor, Maine 04401, or the Durgin Center, 240 State Street, Brewer, Maine 04412.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
