Phyllis Knapp

July 12, 1927 — July 22, 2025

BANGOR - Phyllis W. Knapp, 98, passed away on July 22, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with dementia. A very special thank you to Eastside Center for Health and Rehabilitation and St. Joseph's Hospice for all their loving care that was given to our mother. She was born in Bradley on July 12, 1927, the daughter of George M. and Inez (Boynton) Wood II.

She attended school in Bradley and graduated from Old Town High School in 1947. Phyllis started working at Freese's following high school. After getting married to Norman and having children, she stayed home with us until we went to high school. She then returned to work with Norman as his clerk in the Rockland Armour and Co. until it closed. She held several other jobs until her retirement in 1992, primarily working with insurance companies.

Phyllis and her family always belonged to a church, where she served as a deaconess and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Phyllis and her family were baptized together at the Warren Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, 1969. While in Warren, Phyllis was Girl Scout leader for her daughter, April's troop. After she retired, Norman and Phyllis moved back home to where they grew up. They joined The First Baptist Church Bangor, where she was a deaconess and was very active in the church. She was also a member of Katahdin Chapter No. 121 Order of Old Town.

Phyllis always had time for her grandchildren and loved to have them visit. She was also a favorite dog sitter for her grand dogs, Zeus, Baker, Tootsie, and Magnum. She also loved having other dogs to visit with her.

Phyllis learned to garden after Norman passed away and kept the gardens looking beautiful. She was always working on a puzzle and loved to have help with it when people stopped by. Phyllis was very traditional and loved entertaining her family on all holidays. Everyone always looked forward to her rolls and Christmas cookie trays.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, April Ripley and her husband, Carl; her son, Dana Knapp and his wife, Twila; two grandchildren, Zachery Knapp and his wife, Terry-Lynn, and Anna Whitney and her husband, Justin; four great-grandchildren, Weston Knapp, Maxwell, Levi, and Luke Whitney. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Norman; her brother, George Wood III and his wife, Lillian; her niece, Linda Kelleher.
