Patricia Irene Micue Eye

January 16th, 1933 - May 8th 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patricia (Micue) Eye. Pat was born to Jessica (Handy) Micue on January 16, 1933 in Milo, Maine. She began her life at the Bangor Children's Home until age 8, then was raised by a foster family in Milo. In time, she married Ralph F.W. Eye Jr. and moved to Bangor, where she completed nursing school at Bangor General Hospital in 1951.

Pat and Ralph went on to have four children together: Lance, Patience, Constance, and John. As a devoted nurse and mother, Pat's career took her across the globe, from Burma and Vietnam to Geneva, Florida, Indonesia, Hawaii, Virginia, and finally back to Maine-nursing and caring for others every step of the way.

It was in the late 1970's that Pat discovered her true calling: end-of-life care. She saw firsthand the urgent need for hospice services and made it her life's mission to provide comfort and dignity to the dying. After returning to Maine in 1981, Pat became a pioneer of hospice care in the state. She created the hospice program at St. Joseph Hospital and, in 1994, founded New Hope Hospice, which she directed until 2014. Even after retiring, she maintained a steadfastness to bring dignity to the dying process, and remained deeply engaged in fostering human connection and compassion wherever she went.

Pat was predeceased by her four beloved children. She is survived by her grandchildren: Jennie Burnett Fischer of California, Hope Eye of Brewer, and Grace Eye of Bangor; her great-grandchildren, Margot Fischer and Masie Fischer of California; as well as many loving siblings and cousins across the country.

Throughout her life, Pat touched countless hearts and helped guide many people through life's most sacred final moments. Her impact on not only Maine's communities, but the world as well, is ineffable. It is our sincerest hope that her memory will be a blessing for all who knew her.

A service to celebrate her life will be held 11 am Friday, May 23, 2025 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center, 163 Center St., following the service. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
