BREWER and ORONO – Pamela Dianne Chute, a resident of Brewer, passed away February 17, 2015, in Stuart, Florida. Pamela was born February 18, 1951 in Bangor, the daughter of Harold L. Chute and Marion B. Chute.
Pamela grew up in Orono, where she played the piano and the clarinet, and was a Girl Scout, Past Worthy Advisor of Orono Assembly #38 Order of Rainbow for Girls, receiving the Grand Cross of Color. She participated in the All State Music Festival in both band and chorus. After graduating from Orono High School in 1969, she attended and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maine at Orono in 1973. While there she was inducted in Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Societies. Pamela continued her education at Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 1976. She was a member and Treasurer of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, and legal assistant to the City of Concord. Pamela was admitted to the U.S. District and Maine District Courts in 1977. She began her law practice as an attorney with the law firm of Twitchell, Gray & Linscott, with a varied practice in real estate law. In 1983 she moved to Mitchell & Stearns, becoming a partner until leaving in 1994 for Cuddy & Lanham. At Cuddy & Lanham she specialized in commercial and residential real estate, probate, corporate and business law, until she retired in June 2013.
Pamela was involved in many committees, including the Maine State Bar Association, the Penobscot County Bar Association, of which she was a member of the Board of Directors, President and founding organizer of the Visitor’s Committee. From 1990 to 2009, Pamela was appointed by the Governor to be the Alternate Neutral Chair of the Maine Labor Relations Board. She was also the Public Administrator for Penobscot County from 1995 to 2000. Pamela was a member of the Maine Land Title Association, Maine Trial Lawyers Association and Treasurer of the Law Library.
Pamela enjoyed her community associations, including Eastern Maine Technical College Advisory Council, Penobscot County Private Industry Council Chair, the University of Maine Foundation, The Greater Bangor Area Chamber of Commerce, Literacy Volunteers of America, Junior League of Bangor, the American Folk Festival, the Red Cross and, a favorite, the Page Farm and Home Museum, of which she became a member in 2006 and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2008 until 2014. Special support of the Bangor Symphony and the Bangor Humane Society were reminders of her love of music and animals.
Pamela is survived by her mother, Marion B. Chute, of Orono, a sister, Hazel Lee C. Richard and husband, Alan J. Richard of Arundel, nieces Courtney Lee Richard and Alanna J. Richard of Dayton, sister-in-law, Carla J. Chute of Eagan, Minnesota, and her beloved Papillon, Thunder. She was predeceased by her brother, Cameron Carl Chute in 2007, and her father, Dr. Harold L. Chute in 2008. Pamela was a very special person to all who knew her. She was a world traveler. She was a wonderful friend to many, and a patient teacher to those who worked with her. She will be missed.
