Norma Stymiest

Norma L. Stymiest, 84, passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2025 at Westgate Manor in Bangor. Norma was born on November 11, 1940 in Bangor to Clovis and Helen Houston.

Norma grew up in Levant on the family farm and graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1958. Her Father built roads for the state. At the age of 15, she was doing payroll for the state at the kitchen table. She attended college for accounting and went on to work for the federal government in the Farmer's Home Administration for many years. After retirement, she worked in the call center for L.L. Bean, where she met many friends. She married her late husband John D. Stymiest Jr March 3rd 1962. They would have three children together, Scott, Robert and Ricky.

Her childhood and lifelong best friend was her cousin Peggy Charters (Curry) from Stetson. They spent a lot of time together and made many memories.

Norma had a passion for flowers and gardening, keeping her own flower garden meticulously, and spreading her knowledge with others. In addition to flowers, Norma also had a love for livestock, especially visiting the cows at the Cole farm in Sebec. She enjoyed watching harness racing and traveling the fair circuit around the state. Her favorites were Skowhegan and Windsor. Norma's children and grandchildren were her life. She was a great cook and loved having everyone there for family dinners. Christmas was her favorite and her famous molasses cookies were always a gift.

Norma is survived by her three sons, Scott of Kenduskeag, Robert of Corinth and his partner Cindy of Sebec and Ricky and his partner Melinda of Newburgh. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsey of Cornville and her partner Matt, Erica of Salem, MA and her partner John and Aaron of Corinth. She is predeceased by her Husband John and her Granddaughter Autumn of Newburgh. She is also survived by several cousins.

Norma's family would like to express great appreciation for the care and love from Westgate Manor and all of the people who took such great care of her there.

Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments from 5-7pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at The Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street Bangor. There will be a celebration of life during that time.
