Nancy Ann Shumaker, 84, passed away April 8, 2026 at a Bangor Hospital. She was born March 5, 1942, in Bangor, the daughter of Archie and Winifred (Seeley) MacLeod.
Nancy grew up in Bucksport, Maine. When she was 16 years old, she started working at Averill's making blueberry pies and yeast rolls. If you have ever had her cooking, you know she's a wonderful cook.
She met the love of her life, Louis Shumaker and raised three children together. She was a stay-at-home mother in the children's younger years then went on to become a children's clothing buyer at Epstein's in Brewer. She went on many exciting trips to New York City and saw some Broadway Shows. She was a proud wife of a builder, she would meticulously design the homes, a proud Shriner's wife for many years and she was honored to be the first lady President of Orrington Snow Mobile Club.
Nancy enjoyed quilting, especially making baby quilts for anyone expecting a new baby. She and Lou participated in craft fairs for years. She created beautiful paintings on canvas while Lou crafted handmade wooden gifts. She was a member of the E.O.C.C. She and Lou spent many hours helping create "The Old Country Store."
She is blessed to have so many friends she has met throughout her life's journey. She is loved by so many and welcomed everyone into her world. She liked to host parties, have gatherings and live life with love and laughter. Don't forget tall those "puns" she would come out with.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Lou; her children, Angela Shumaker Bowder (John), Louann Shumaker McCarthy, Daughter-in-law, Clare Shumaker; and Son-in-law, Russell McCarthy; "The Boys" (brothers), Brian MacLeod, Jack MacLeod and Mark MacLeod (Suzanne); 9 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Archie and Winifred; her son, Russell E. Shumaker; and her sister, Gayle Dominick.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Nancy on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 12:00pm-2:30pm, at First United Methodist Church of Orrington, 14 Center Drive, Orrington. A graveside service will take place at a later date.
