Milton Lawrence Knowles, Sr.

Milton Lawrence Knowles Sr., passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born June 5, 1939, the son of Bertrand C. and June E. (Mower) Knowles.

Milton was #9 of 15 children; he grew up in Glenburn and attended Glenburn schools before moving to Levant. In his early years he worked for Budweiser as a truck driver, enjoyed flagging at the racetrack, was very active in the Levant Fire Department spending a portion of that time as rescue chief and was also a bus driver for MSAD#23 for many years. Milton started his own construction business in the late 1970's and brought his son into the business in the late 1980's "Milton Knowles & Son Construction". He loved working his business doing groundwork, putting in septic systems and snowplowing to provide for his family. Milton loved and was so proud of his four children and truly treasured the time he got to spend with them and their families. He retired from his business in 2021 and became quite the homebody, enjoying the simple life of sitting on his porch, feeding his birds and catching the squirrels. Thanks to close family and friends he was able to live on his own, on his own terms and that was truly his greatest wish. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his daughter, Tammy Noyes and her husband Robert of Carmel, his daughter Terry Mayhew of Carmel, his son Milton Jr. and his wife Shannon of Levant, and his daughter Holly Grindal and her husband Lyndon of Holden; grandchildren, Heidi Scripture, Shantelle Edkins, Tasha Robichaud, Brady Knowles, Brody Knowles, Remington Grindal and Sophia Grindal; great grandchildren, Saphire, London, Bentley, Alexys, Ryan, Caleb, Sayde, Jackson and Rhonin; sisters, June, Judy and Julia and many nieces and nephews. Milton was predeceased by the mother of his children Patsy Thomas Knowles, his son-in-law Scott Mayhew, and his granddaughter Jessica Noyes Meek.

A special thank you to his niece Cindy and her husband Terry for all the visits and treats and to Dennis Frost for being the greatest friend to our dad.

Per Milton's wishes he will be laid to rest in a private graveside ceremony.
