BREWER - Marilyn Ruth Doherty, 84, died unexpectedly March 1, 2019 at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 30, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. Marilyn graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1953. She participated in Junior Chorus, Girl's Basketball, Girl's Volleyball, Girl's Drill Team and Biology Club. Over the years she worked at area department stores - Woolworth's, Woolco and Ames. She was a member of the Hampden and Bangor Posts of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and served as President of the Bangor Post in 1969 and as President of District 4 in 1973. In her free time she loved reading, spending time with her cats and creating art. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, James E. Doherty and Marion F. (Hammett) Doherty Stevens, Step-Father, Harold Stevens, brother, James E. Doherty Sr., step-sister, Rosemary Gafin and step-brother, Raymond (Bud) Stevens and long time friend Kay Ann Travis. Surviving are nieces and nephews, James E Doherty Jr. of Groton, CT, Debbie Rhome and her husband Cliff of Limestone, Ruth Doherty of Hermon, John Doherty and his wife Lisa of Bangor, Cindy Wade and her husband Ron of Victoria, TX., Michael McCarthy and his wife Dora of Bangor, sister-in-law Grace "Ellie" Chambers and her husband Almer "JR" of Brewer, special cousin, Ruth E Tucker of MA. and second cousin Marilyn Klim also of MA., and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank Bob Bull - neighbor, for his friendship & compassionate support to Marilyn over the past few years. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday March 5, 2019, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 531 North Main Street, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation downstairs in the parish hall immediately following the mass, Tuesday. The Rite of Committal will be held at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor, at a date and time to be announced in the spring.
