Marilyn Curtis

October 15, 1935 — April 23, 2025

HOLDEN, MAINE - Marilyn Joyce (Grant) Connick Curtis went home to be with her heavenly father Wednesday, April 23, 2025. She was born October 15, 1935, at home in Charleston, Maine, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Gertrude Elizabeth (West) Grant.

Marilyn grew up in Charleston and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute as Valedictorian of the Class of 1955. After school she moved to Bangor, got married in 1957, to Robert Connick and settled down in Holden, where they raised their four daughters, Donna, Sharon, Teresa and Susan. Marilyn worked as a legal secretary, administrative assistant and a record keeper until retirement, in 1998. Her most enjoyable and rewarding career was that of wife, mother and Gram to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marilyn enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, and playing cards or cribbage with good friends. She loved to travel, especially vacations in Florida, with her sister, Evelyn and trips to Canada with her second husband, Tom.

Surviving, are her daughters, Donna Connick, of Holden and her children, Travis Thomas and Jasmin Kozura and their son, Leon; Brice and Jocelyn Thomas and their children, Cheyanne, Chance, Ryland; Jessica Spencer; daughter, Sharon Esler and her husband, Jason, of Albion, Maine and their children, Robert and Stephanie Eckert and their children, Brooke and Alyssa; Sam and Terry Freeman and their children, Clementine and Lawson; daughter, Teresa and Allen Grant, of Plymouth, Maine and their children, Josh and Jeremy Grant; stepchildren, Denise Maheu and her husband, Marc and their son, Jack, of Fairfield, Maine; Darcy Butler and her husband, Robert and their sons, Tommy and Tynan, of State College, Pennsylvania; Amanda Curtis, of Cromwell, Connecticut and her sons, Drew and Tucker; many special nieces and nephews and a special friend in her later years, Norman.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her brother, Harland L. Grant; sister, Evelyn Floyd; husband, Robert J. Connick; daughter, Susan Connick; second husband, Thomas Curtis, Sr.; step-son, Thomas Curtis, Jr. and special brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Connick.

Our family would like to thank Bangor Veterans' Home and Beacon Hospice for their kindness and compassion in caring for our mother, Marilyn.

A Celebration of Marilyn's Life will be held from 4-6p.m., Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, where all are invited to share conversation and refreshments. Our mother will later be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer with our dad and sister and many family members. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
