Marek A. Sitarski, 80, died May 15, 2025, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his wife, son, and daughter. He was born on January 28, 1945, in Lodz, Poland, the son of Leon and Janina Sitarski.
Marek obtained his BS in chemistry and mathematics and MS in chemistry at the University of Lodz, Poland. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. in chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Following graduation, Marek worked on several research projects at various institutions, leading to his real passion in life, teaching. He truly enjoyed seeing students learn and grow in their academic careers. Dr. Sitarski was granted Professor Emeriti at Husson University after 17 years of teaching chemistry.
On April 7th, 1980, Marek married the love of his life Ewa. They spent 45 happy years together. During that time they had a daughter, Anna, and son, Adam. Marek had a deep love for the outdoors and nature and would spend a great deal of time hiking, skiing, sailing, and planting trees in his garden. This love of nature was shared with his children who cherished time with their father in the great outdoors.
Marek was also a deeply spiritual and religious man who would regularly read religious texts and philosophies from around the world. Later in his career he became involved in the philosophy of chemistry. Discussions with him were always interesting and lively. His enthusiasm for life and knowledge was infectious.
Marek was a genuinely good person who was well-loved by all who met him. He was an outstanding father and grandfather, who is deeply loved and is profoundly missed.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Ewa Sitarski; are his son, Adam Sitarski, his wife, Tracy, and their two children; daughter, Anna Sitarski and her spouse, Nic; and sister, Zofia Rozwadowska.
