ORONO - Louise E. Snow, 95, passed away May 30, 2025, at a Bangor hospital. She was born January 7, 1930, in Bristol, Connecticut, the daughter of Rene and Alice (Morrisette) Taillon.
Louise graduated from Bristol High School, Connecticut. Following graduation, she continued her education, graduating from Bay Path College, Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Class of 1949, with a Medical Secretarial Degree. From there, she worked as a Medical Technician in Connecticut, Wisconsin (where she met her future husband, Retired Lt. Col., George F. Snow), Massachusetts and Maine (where she worked for St. Joseph Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Robert O. Kellogg M.D. for 14 years as a Medical Secretary, and William R. Wood M.D. for 4 years as a Medical Secretary).
While enjoying her time growing orchids, gardening (as a Master Gardener), photography, swimming, reading and quilting, Louise also served her community in several capacities as an Orono Public Library board member, also serving as Chairman of the Board for many years, Board Member of Keep Bangor Beautiful, a Bangor Garden Show Judge and Outdoor Garden Show Judge. She was also a member of the American Orchid Society and Co-Founder of the Eastern Maine Orchid Society, member of the Orono, Veazie, and Bangor Garden Clubs, member of the Former Woman's Club, of Orono. Her love of orchids had taken her to New Zealand, Scotland, and many cities across North America.
She was also an avid quilter, serving as a member of the Pine Tree Quilters and Orono Quilters. She had many quilts to benefit the Orono Public Library Building Fund, as well as Keep Bangor Beautiful and Project Linus.
Louise also cherished her camp and all of her cats. It was a special day in the fall of 1987 when her greenhouse was completed. She moved her orchids into their permanent home, followed by 150 additional plants, each with its own individual requirements.
Surviving Louise, are her sons, Gregory Snow; graduate of the University of Maine and his wife, Paivi, of New Hope, Minnesota, Geoffrey R. Snow; graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, of Orono, Maine; grandson, Alexander, of Cambridge, United Kingdom; sister-in-law, Grace Cwiek and nieces and nephews, Allison and Nick.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Retired Lt. Col. George F. Snow; her brother, Raymond Taillon, and brother-in-law, Judge David Snow. She will also be greatly missed by her wonderful cat, Bella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor.
