Louis J. Betters, 74, passed away September 2, 2025, at home. He was born November 29, 1950, in Old Town, the son of Leroy F. and Katharine (Gifford) Betters.
Louis graduated from the first class of Central High School. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army from 1971-1973. He worked for Northeastern Log Homes for many years then at Hollywood Casino, retiring in 2017.
Surviving are his sister, Judith Nickerson and her husband, Rick, of Winterport. He also leaves behind a special niece, nephew, and great-nephew, Angel, Preston and Trent Nickerson, of Glenburn, with whom he resided for the past 9 years. He also leaves behind his dog, Marble; and many nieces and nephews, Brent (Mary) Nickerson, Ernest (Linda) Colson, Leah (Sean) Brown, Rosemarie Dunton, Linda Lee Seekings, Tracy Tate and Kathy (Mark) Wilberg; special great-niece, Ashley Mitchell, and her family; special friends, Dot Munson, Sheryl Larsson and Andrea Mahar. In addition to his parents, Louis was predeceased by brothers, Leroy Betters, James Colson and Gifford Colson; sisters, Ellen Gehrke, Bernie and her husband, Billy 'Oscar' Tate; niece, Robyn Tate-Brown; nephews, Sylvio Colson, Michael Colson and Allen Colson; and very special Great Nephew, Brady Louis Nickerson.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, Glenburn Fire Department, and Levant Fire and Rescue for all of their help in the last few weeks.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Lakeview Cemetery, Glenburn.
