Lois Jean Carter

Glenburn - Lois Jean Carter, 70, wife of the late Stephen Carter, passed away peacefully at her home on April 15, 2026. She was born in Bangor, July 7, 1955, the daughter of Elmer "Shorty" and Maxine (Johnson) Fitz.

Lois started school in a one-room schoolhouse in West Glenburn, and later that school year started at the new Glenburn Elementary School. She was a 1973 graduate of Hermon High School. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Carter's Garage and Used Cars for over 30 years.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Erica (Poole) Dupuis and her husband, Josh, their children, Harley Jean and Kaydence Beverly, her daughter, Jessica Poole and her children, Taylor Joy, Blayne Kody and Kinley Carter; two step daughters, Kimberly Paul and her family and Stacey Forgie and her family; a sister, Suzanne Fitz and her partner, Craig Cousins; sisters-in law, Sharon Fitz and Nancy Carter; many nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousins, Vicki Mayhew, Kelley and Horace Dunton; special life-long friends, Jane (Cutler) Withee, Dennis Frost, Jeff and Mary Ann Pinkerton, Danielle "Pink" Pinkerton, David and Shawna Doyle and family, Garry and Trisha Martin, Beverly Sargent, Barbara Velgouse, and Joan Walker.

Lois was predeceased by her husband, Steve; her parents; a sister, Beverly; brothers, James Fitz and Edward Fitz; sister-in-law, Peggy Fitz; nephews, Todd Fitz and James Fitz, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Franklin Carter.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Leah B., Maddie, Rissa, Judy, Michelle, Chris, and the entire St. Joseph Healthcare and Hospice staff for their kindness.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Lois's life will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Private interment will be in Birch Grove Cemetery, West Glenburn.
