Llewellyn "Lou" J. Morneault

February 17, 1937 — May 2, 2025

Llewellyn “Lou” J. Morneault, 88, of Bangor, passed away peacefully at a Bangor Hospital on May 2, 2025, with complications from a stroke he suffered in February. He was born on February 17, 1937, in Eagle Lake, Maine, the son of Louis and Clarena (Guimond) Morneault.

Lou was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara (Treadwell) Morneault; his daughter, Julie Russell; and five of his six siblings. In addition to his younger brother, Harry McNally and his wife, June, of New Hampshire, Lou is survived by and will be missed by his children, Linda Kenney and her husband, Ted, of Glenburn and their sons, Shaun and Marc, and their spouses; his son, Barry Russell, of Oak Park Ill and his children, Vaughn, Simone, and Amit; a daughter, LuAnn Ballesteros and her husband, Mike, of Glenburn and their children, Shyla, Amie, Corey, Audra, and Gavin and their spouses; his son, Rodney Morneault and his wife, Stacey, of Orrington and their children, Nicolle, Karra, and Josh and their spouses; a daughter, Renee Foster and her husband, Bob of Hampden and their children, Jake, Katie, Ben, and Isaac and their spouses; and his son, Tony Morneault of Glenburn. Lou is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lou retired from Prudential in 1984 and together with his wife Barbara, fulfilled a shared dream of ‘being their own boss’. Their hard work, business acumen, and a healthy supply of family labor, led to the success of the Village Variety and River’s Edge convenience stores, in Glenburn and Eddington.

Lou was at his best when he was working on a building or mechanical project, or in a vegetable or flower garden with Barbara. They were avid gardeners who liked nothing better than a tomato or a green bean straight from the plant and the gardens surrounding their home were photo worthy. His family will miss having easy access to the vast amount of knowledge and experience Lou accumulated as a lifetime practitioner of DIY ‘do-it-yourself’.

Lou always liked a good card game and in their younger years, he and Barbara enjoyed getting together with his brothers and their wives, and more recently with his sons and sons-in-law, for an evening of fellowship and good-natured ribbing. He was a longtime member of the Bangor Elks Club, and he never lost his enthusiasm for a one-armed-bandit.

A graveside service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments from 4-6pm, Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
