Linda Buckley

July 25, 1948 — August 25, 2013

BANGOR - Linda V. Colburn Buckley, 65, died peacefully at EMMC on Sunday, August 25, after a short illness. Linda was born in Bangor on July 25, 1948 to Howard and Carolyn (Hart) Colburn.

Linda attended Bangor schools and graduated from Newport High School in 1966, where she was active in French Club, cheerleading, and other school activities. She attended the University of Maine, and studied foreign languages. Linda had a true gift for learning new languages quickly. She spoke French, Spanish, and German, among others. She was active in the International Student organization at UMaine and had a promising career ahead of her using her language and social skills. Sadly, Linda developed schizophrenia in her early 20’s and struggled with the illness throughout her life. Even so, she was always the nice, sweet, kind person that her friends and family had come to know and love.

Linda lived in Pawtucket, RI for most of her adult life. She was married to Leonard Buckley, Jr. for over 25 years until his death in 2003. Her brother, Steve, and his wife, Lisa, moved Linda back to Bangor in 2012 so they could spend more time with her and ensure that her needs were being met. She especially enjoyed going out for ice cream and loving our little dog, Pitou. We would like to thank the staff at Engel Place at Ross Manor for their kind, loving care of Linda. We also want to thank a special family friend, Mary Jude, for visiting Linda with her dog, Chou Chou.

Linda had no children, and is survived by her brother, Steve Colburn and his wife Lisa, of Orono; brother Robert Colburn, of Pittsburg, CA; cousin Sylvia (Hughey) Daniels of Sabattus, ME; and cousin David Farnham and wife Carole, of North Carolina.

A graveside ceremony will be held for Linda 2pm Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the superintendent’s office at 1:45pm before going to the gravesite.

Friends who wish to remember Linda in a special way are encouraged to make a donation in Linda’s
name to a local animal shelter or to their favorite charity.
