Kimberly M. Wood, 52, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 14, 2026. She was born September 26, 1973, in Rome, NY, the daughter of James Gerard Wood and Marie-France (Baynes) Kunkel.
Kimberly graduated from Rome Free Academy High School, class of 1991. She received her bachelor's degree in Education from SUNY Potsdam in 1995. She was a teacher working with special needs children to make a positive impact upon her community.
Kimberly's work was her passion and helping kids was her special talent which made her career fulfilling and productive. She enriched the lives of the youth she worked with and it was truly her calling. She also enjoyed reading, spending time at home and being with her family.
An adopted resident of Maine since 1998, Kimberly was proud to reside in the Bangor area. Kim also lived in the Unity area and raised a family there prior to her move to Bangor.
Surviving are Kimberly's mother, Marie-France Kunkel; her sister, Wendy Wood Matteson (Scott); and her children, Kasey Moore Dyson, Chase James Roberts and Sophie Rose Makarowski. Kimberly was predeceased by her grandmother, Jacqueline Moore Baynes; her father, James G. Wood; and her stepfather, Michael J. Kunkel.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Family Reception Rooms immediately following the service. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, will be private.
We are especially thankful to Beacon Hospice in Bangor, ME, for their care and support. Their presence was a blessing at this difficult time.
