ETNA - Kenneth Allen Massar, 93, died in the early morning of November 11, 2025. He was born on September 2, 1932, in Warren, Ohio to Ivan and Luna (Marsh) Massar.
Kenneth's call to be an artist took him to Ohio Wesleyan U., Illinois, Carnegie Tech, the Art Student's League in NYC, the Skowhegan School, and to an MFA at Florida State University. His travels took him to Mexico, Canada, Germany and Spain. He finally settled on 11 acres in Etna, Maine where he built his house in the woods and happily drew and painted for 50 years, showing his work from time to time. He was adamant about taking care of the property and household himself. Ken was a free spirit who loved classical music, gospel music, and country music; he listened to music all day when he was working. His intellect and curiosity were multi-faceted and huge. He loved poetry and quoted it daily. He loved to sing. He was fond of cats and chipmunks. In 1986 he met his wife to be, Lois Treworgy Leckey.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by three brothers, John, Ivan Jr., and Eugene, and a sister, Martha Massar Kelly. He leaves his beloved wife, Lois; nieces, including Kathie Massar, Elise Nix, Andrea Massar, Nancy Neff, Marianne Graves and Susan Ford and nephews, including David, Mickey and wife Mary, Bruce, Charles and wife, Deb, Gary and wife, Kim and Kurt and wife, Pat. He also leaves step-children, Karen and husband, Matthew, John and wife, Joyce, Greg and wife, Uschi, and step-grandchildren, Pamela, Kevin, Julian, Jennifer, Jordan, Paul, Heather, Michelle, Thomas, Sarah, Lou, and Allison.
