CROSS LAKE & BANGOR - Kathleen O. Bouchard, 95, passed away peacefully September 5, 2016, at her home in Bangor. She was born January 5, 1921, in Escourt, Quebec, Canada, to Patrick and Jennie (Jandreau) O’Grady.
Kathleen or “Kay” as most called her, grew up in Fort Kent, the youngest of six children. She moved to Caribou after marrying Roger Bouchard, had three children and went to work as a bookkeeper for Avon Brown Inc. Kay then went on to co-found and co-own ELCO Electric in Bangor. She was a sharp business woman who gained the respect of those in the electrical contracting field at a time when few women worked in that industry. Family was the most important thing to Kay. She lost her only brother in World War ll and a family bond that was incredibly strong, strengthened even more after his death. Her husband died in 1980 and after retiring, she moved to Mountain View, CA, for the winters to be near her sisters and mother. They took care of each other as they aged and eventually, Kay moved back to Maine fulltime. Her life was spent making sure her children wanted for nothing and that the loving bonds she shared with her sisters extended to the next generation. A good deal of time was spent at the family cottage at Cross Lake where cousins from both sides of the family gathered, making for some very loud but happy summers. Kay always had a smile, a kind word and a loving embrace for anyone who needed it.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Frances Bouchard of Bangor, ME; her son, Thomas Bouchard and his wife Jean of Northridge, CA.; and two grandsons, Kristofer Bouchard and his significant other, Tiffanie Fine and Matthew Bouchard and his wife Donnell of California. She will be dearly missed by a large number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband, Roger Bouchard; a daughter, Margaret Ann Bouchard; a brother, Grover O’Grady; and four sisters, Frances Bohley, Martha Doty, Geneva Sawyer and Jeanne Daigle. Special thanks to Leslie St. Louis and Betty Brehm for their help in caring for Kay over the years as well as the caregivers with Hospice of Eastern Maine who made her last days much more comfortable.
A graveside service at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Caribou will take place at a later date. Those who wish to remember Kay in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union Street, Suite 220, Bangor, ME 04401, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
