Levant - Karen Ann (King) Savage, 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Monday, 6 October 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine, after complications while in the care of a local nursing home, a burden she faced with grace and courage.
She was born August 10, 1948, in Van Buren, Maine. She had many siblings, Robert, Paul, Linda, Joyce, June, Donna, Christine, Lynn, Lisa, Bill, Eddie, and Liz.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Lena Cote of Bangor, Maine; brothers, Robert, Paul; sisters, Joyce, June, Donna, Christine, and Liz; and grandson, Joseph Andrew Cote Smith.
She is survived by brothers, Bill and Eddie; sisters, Linda, Lynn, and Lisa; sons, Joseph Smith and wife, Sarah of Levant, Maine, Rev. George Little and wife, Debbie of Sanford, Maine; daughter's, Ruth-Ann of Glenburn, Maine, Emmalee Savage of Old Town, Maine; stepdaughters, Mary-Jo Grant of Bangor, Maine and Heather Bennett and husband, Doug of Laurel Fork, Virginia.
She graduated from Bangor High School class of 1967. She raised 4 children, Joey, Buddy, Ruthy Mae, and Emmie. She would be called "Mom" by many more over the years, including the redheaded son, Kevin. She was a proud member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Bangor, Maine, and loved Jesus! You could often walk into her house and hear the sound of her favorite Christian songs playing in the background.
Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, which meant all year was Christmas. She loved collecting anything with snowmen on it, and a Christmas tree wasn't fully decorated without a lot of tinsel.
She had a home daycare for many years and would later become a foster parent, doing what she loved to do, raise and care for children. As a homemaker, she loved kids, cooking, and holidays. Anyone who knew her knows she loved games; cribbage, Yahtzee, and Skip-Bo, to name a few.
One of her favorite things to talk about was her grandchildren. To them, she was known as "Meme". She had many to talk about during her lifetime: Kelena, NataLee, Michael, Brian, Matthew, Devin, Addison, Tiphanie, Kayleigh, Ariannah, Michael, Christopher, Jackson, Owen, Eloise, Levi, Kevin, Michael, Nick, Jillian, and Ben.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Karen's life at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Lighthouse church, 517 Hammond Street, Bangor, Maine. A reception will immediately follow for family and friends.
A graveside ceremony will be held at a later date for immediate family only.
