Joseph Wayne Grant

Bangor - Joseph Wayne "Joe" Grant, 54, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous five-month illness. Joe was born on April 3, 1972, the son of Lawrence and Carolyn Grant, both of whom predeceased him.

Those who knew Joe will remember him for the warmth and kindness he brought wherever he went. He always had a smile to share, a kind word to offer, and a helping hand for anyone who needed one. His generous spirit, sense of humor, and genuine love for the people in his life made him someone who was truly special to know.

Joe had a great love for sports, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. He was also a devoted Michael Jordan superfan, with "Big Papi" David Ortiz coming in a close second. Whether watching a game, talking sports, or cheering on his favorites, Joe's enthusiasm was unmistakable.

And then there was the music. Joe loved his '80s music with a passion. Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'n Roll might as well have been written just for him. Music brought Joe tremendous joy, and those familiar songs will forever bring back memories of him.

Above everything else, Joe's greatest love and proudest achievement was his son, Joseph "JJ" Grant Jr. Nothing made Joe prouder than JJ, and he never missed an opportunity to proudly say, "This is my son!" He was overjoyed that JJ found the love of his life in his fiancée, Cassie Staples. Joe adored Cassie as well and was always quick to brag about what a wonderful cook she is. Seeing JJ happy and loved meant the world to him.

Joe is survived by his beloved son, Joseph "JJ" Grant Jr. and his fiancée, Cassie Staples; his siblings, Larry Grant Jr. of Bangor; Roxanne Keller and her husband, Pete, of Scottsdale, Arizona; Linda Edgecomb of Orono, wife of the late Jeffrey Edgecomb; Timothy Grant of Clearwater, Florida; and Donald Grant of Bangor; his niece, Presley Keller; his stepmother, Doris Grant of Warren; his stepsister, Joanna Vail of Waldoboro; and his stepbrother, John Wilbur of Warren.

Joe also leaves behind his special friend, Serena Dunroe, with whom he shared many memorable road trips and a mutual love of music. Their adventures, laughter, and the songs they enjoyed along the way were a special part of Joe's life and brought him much happiness.

Joe leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of kindness, laughter, love, and devotion to family and friends. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, but the joy he brought into their lives will remain.

Joe will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

A graveside service celebrating Joe's life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Family and friends are invited to gather at 10:40 a.m. at the Superintendent's Lodge, 1048 State Street.
