Joseph 'Joe Cool 'Albert Brill, 73, passed away unexpectedly August 18, 2025, at his residence in Bangor. He was born August 2, 1952, in Bangor, the son of Earl and Sylvia (Doucette) Brill.
Joseph, affectionately known by his friends and family as 'Joe Cool', attended Bangor High School and worked at Howard Johnson's in Bangor for several years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to travel and explore different states in his younger years. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with family and friends. Joe lived his life simply and was a friend to many. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and giving nature.
Joe is survived by his son, Joshua Shirley of North Carolina; granddaughters, Aleia Shirley of Connecticut, and Madison Shirley of Bangor; great-grandchildren, Athena and Emiliano; one brother, Earl Brill and his wife, Wanda, of Florida; a sister, Nancy (Brill) Perkins of Bangor; two nieces, Jessica Fielder and her partner, Kristi Murray, of Bangor, and Jennifer Stevens and her husband, Josiah, of New Hampshire; a great-niece, Maggie Sage; along with his beloved cat, 'Babyface'; and a long-time friend, Sandy Wood of Bangor; many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by brother, Albert 'Albie' Brill.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Joe's life on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bangor Public Library, Third floor, Norman Minsky Lecture Hall, 145 Harlow Street, Bangor, ME.
