DEXTER - Jonathan Robert Smith, 28, of Dexter, Maine, passed away of natural causes on July 12, 2026. Born on November 21, 1997, in Bangor, Maine, Jon was the beloved son of Robb and Leslie Smith of Hermon, Maine. To some he was Jonathan, to others he was Jon, and to friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins who held him close, he was “Jonny, Jon Jon, or Smitty.”

Jon found his greatest happiness in God’s creation. He treasured time spent bird hunting, snowmobiling, and ice fishing at his grandfather’s camp in Millinocket. He also loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar. But most of all, Jon valued spending quality time with his family and friends. Jon was hardworking, caring, intuitive, and deeply kind. Loyal to those he loved, he always made time to show up for family and friends. He had a tight-knit circle of buddies whom he called “The Boyz”. They shared many adventures and laughs, and their relationships developed into unwavering support in their adult lives. Jon’s quiet generosity and jovial nature touched everyone fortunate to know him.

Jon graduated from Hermon High School in 2016. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Southern New Hampshire University and was building a successful career as an Account Manager with Fastenal. He took pride in his work and was respected for his dedication, dependability, and willingness to help others.

Jon is survived by his father and mother, Robb and Leslie Smith of Hermon, Maine; his sister, Emily Hunter, her husband, King, and their son, River of Beverly, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his grandparents, Robert and Barbara Smith of Brewer, Marilyn Martin of Johnstown, PA, and Mary Martin of Seymour, CT; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and his childhood dog, Beasley. He was predeceased by his grandfather, James Martin. They all look forward to being reunited with him in Heaven.

Jon’s life was filled with laughter, service, and a deep appreciation for family. He will be remembered in all the things he loved, and in every sunset over northern Maine.

A Celebration of Jon’s life will take place at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at The Rock Church, 1195 Ohio St, Bangor. A Reception will follow at the church. Interment will be at 10am, Monday, July 27, 2026 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
