John Murphy

March 21, 1981 — August 20, 2025

EDDINGTON, MAINE - John Patrick Murphy, 44, passed away unexpectedly August 20, 2025, in his home. He was born March 21, 1981, in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Kevin and Kathleen (O'Connell) Murphy.

John was the proud father of his children, Mallory and Eli Murphy and always said his children were his best accomplishment in life.

John retired from US Army in February of 2022. During his distinguished 20-year military career, John attained the rank of Master Sergeant and served with distinction for 14 years in the United States Army Special Operations Command, deploying to Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and North Africa. He was an incredible leader and left an indelible mark on all those with whom he served. For his exemplary service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Defense Meritorious Service Medal.

John, his wife Anne, and stepson, Quinn moved to Maine when John retired and have enjoyed a quiet and peaceful past 3 years in Maine building a new life and traveling the world as much as possible.

John will be remembered as a brilliant man with a wonderful sense of humor and compassion. John was a lover of travel and an explorer, always wanting to experience more. He was a devoted soldier who spent most of his adult life serving this country. He was an avid outdoorsman, woodworker, and dog lover, preferring to spend his happy moments in the woods or on a river.

He will be missed dearly by all of those he touched along the way.

In addition to his parents, John leaves behind his siblings, Jeffrey (Annette), of Farmington, Connecticut, Andrew, of Hebron, Connecticut, Bridget, of Vernon, Connecticut and Gregory (Tracey), of South Windsor, Connecticut; nephews and nieces, Brian, Ava, McKenzie and Benjamin Murphy.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 4-6p.m., Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Connecticut immediately followed by the Rite of Committal at a date and time to be determined. The family requests that any donations in John's honor can be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt Hope Ave, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
