Green Lake - Joanne Garland Heber, 89, passed away on December 25, 2015, at the Maine Veterans Home. She was born June 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph Daniel and Carolyn (Adams) Garland.
Joanne was the wife of the late Air Force Lt. Colonel Malcolm M. Heber. She was a graduate of the Garland School, Boston. Joanne was active as a Girl Scout Leader and was involved with numerous other civic organizations: Bangor District Nursing Assn., Quipus, Zonta, Athene, Military Officer’s Wives Club, and Dedham Community Club. She was well known for her entertaining, artistic ability, drawing, ceramics, crafts, sewing, knitting, bridge, canasta, mahjong, and pies.
She is survived by her children; Carol Lane and husband Daniel of Bangor, Justin Heber and wife Annick Gaultier of France, and Albert Heber and wife Sarah of Bangor; grandchildren, Nicholas, Luke, Hannah, Bonnie, Joseph and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Malcolm, Drew, Orion, Christopher, and Bodhi. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Virginia “Ginny” (Garland) Inkel, and a brother, Philip Adams Garland.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments from 12-2 PM, Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, Brewer Chapel, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Joanne in a special way may make gifts to a charity of your choice.
