LUCERNE-IN-MAINE- Joan Elizabeth (Wills) Wescott, 81, passed away peacefully in her home on August 25, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Foxboro, Massachusetts, to William and Celia (Van Hoesen) Wills.
Joan's unique sense of humor and passion for making others feel welcome helped her become a fixture in the community. Starting at a young age, Joan lived a life of service through activities like Girl Scouts, drill team, and yearbook editor. Joan graduated from Foxboro High School in 1963 alongside her future husband, David, and continued her education at Framingham State Teacher's College before marrying in 1965. Joan transitioned to life as a military wife and mother while continuing to spend her time serving her community through organizations like Welcome Wagon, the Foxboro PTA, and the Red Cross, as well as being a Tupperware saleswoman and Cub Scout den leader. When Joan and her family moved to Maine, she worked to help build the family business while raising their three children. Joan built a life as expansive as her garden, with travel, outdoor adventures, various creative hobbies, and a home that was always welcoming to everyone. Joan will be remembered by her family and friends for her welcoming smile, generous heart, and snarky joke when you weren't expecting it.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her siblings, Debbie (George) Burgess and Raymond Wills; in-laws, Richard Sr. and Ruth Wescott and Richard Jr. (Lucy) Wescott.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, David; children, Chris and his children, Crystal, Kevin (Missy), and William, and their mother, Denise; Mark (Jen) and their children, Leah and Tyler; and Celeste and her son, Wesley, as well as Wesley's brother, Kaden. She is also survived by her younger brother, Peter (Maureen) Wills; sister-in-law, Barbara Wills and their families; as well as extended family and close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, Maine, immediately followed by a committal in the Wescott Family Burial Ground, 1299 Bangor Rd., Ellsworth, Maine.
