Joan "Betty" E. Ring, 96, died peacefully March 15, 2026, at her home in Orrington. She was born May 22, 1929, in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of Alton M. and Margaret E. (Brown) Dixon.

Betty grew up in Hampden and Orrington, attended local schools and graduated from Brewer High School. She married her beloved husband, Theodore "Ted" C. Ring and they settled in Orrington, where they raised their family, sharing over 50 wonderful years together. After her children were grown, Betty worked at the Orrington town office as an assistant clerk and for the Orrington School as a substitute teacher. She was also active in several community organizations and boards.

Betty was a long time dedicated and active member of the Second Congregational Church in Brewer.

Betty truly loved being at the camp she and Ted built on Toddy Pond. She spent summers there enjoying the lake, being outside, boating and canoeing, watching Loons, Ducks, Herons, Ospreys and other wildlife. She had many other pleasures too, including cooking, gardening, and various crafts.

Her greatest joys, however, always involved family. Vacation cruises, Holiday gatherings, Birthday celebrations, accomplishments and school activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and more.

Surviving are two sons, James D. and his wife Barbara Ring, Gregory A. and his wife Kathy Ring, and Son-in-law Robert Bishop, all of Orrington. Grandchildren are Matthew, Christopher and Robert Ring, Jeffrey and Mark Strang, Christine Voteur and Ryan Ring. Great grandchildren are Lucas, Anna, Alex, Elizabeth and Oliver Ring, Adam, Kyle, Sierra and Mercedes Strang, Jenna and Lauren Voteur and Ethan Ring.

Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband Theodore C. Ring in 1998, and her beloved daughter Jane E. (Ring) Bishop in 2025.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5PM to 7PM Friday, March 20,2026 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith 55 S. Main St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday March 21, 2026. All are invited to share conversations and refreshments immediately following the service. Private interment services will take place later in the spring.
