Jeanne (White) Rogers died on [May 30, 2025] at 96 with her daughter, Barbara, by her bedside. She was born on February 14, 1929 in Passumpsic, Vermont, daughter of J. Edward White and Helena (Harmon) White.
She graduated from Old Town High School in 1946, and from the Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing Program in 1950. That same year she married Dustan S. Rogers, the love of her life.
Jeanne became a mother, and started her nursing career as a private duty nurse. This was before the widespread emergence of hospital ICUs and recovery rooms. This position gave her the flexibility to complete one assignment and then stay home to be a full-time mother.
When her daughter started college, Jeanne began teaching nursing at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. When that school closed, she became a nursing instructor at the Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. Also at that time, she began studies at the University of Maine where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees. She was a nursing instructor for 15 years at the Eastern Maine Medical Center (now the Northern Light EMMC Hospital) and then Husson College Baccalaureate Nursing Program. She expanded her love for nursing and people and travelled to high schools all over the State of Maine to encourage an interest in nursing careers.
Jeanne's ultimate loves were her beloved husband Dustan, and daughter Barbara. She lived all her years in the home that they built together. For ten years following their retirement, Jeanne and Dustan traveled with an RV in the winter months, visiting all 51 of the United States. They also enjoyed traveling to all of the Hawaiian Islands, and visited many Caribbean islands on cruises. They explored Mayan ruins in Mexico and enjoyed interacting with other travelers as members of two travel clubs.
Jeanne was a long-time member of the Bangor Garden Club and served as president. She actively participated in Penobscot District Garden Club activities and was past editor of the Garden Club Federation of Maine newsletter. She won many awards for her floral designs in the National Garden Club, Inc. Standard Flower Shows.
She was a member of the EMGH-EMMC Husson Baccalaureate Nursing Program Alumni, the Frances Deighton Williams chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Maine Herb Society. In later years she served as secretary for the Hampden Senior Citizen Club.
Jeanne loved dancing with her husband in their social dancing group, gardening in her many rock gardens, being creative in all endeavors, and helping others. She loved her family and she cared about people.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bridges; granddaughter, Gabrielle (Michael) Goldforb; grandson, Morgan (Anne) Bridges; great-grandson, Harvey Vittum; special niece, Anita Haskell. She was predeceased by her husband, Dustan S. Rogers; her parents; and sisters, Frances Peavey, Minerva Burr, Mildred Batson, and Irene Jameson.
She will be interred next to her beloved husband, Dustan, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. A memorial service is planned for late August.
