Janice Osgood

ORONO - Janice Elizabeth Curry Osgood, beloved wife for 65 years of the late Eben Averill Osgood, Jr., died May 30, 2025. Born April 12, 1933 in Clover, South Carolina, she was the oldest child of the late Joseph Judson and Martha Jackson Curry.

Janice graduated from Clover High School, Clover, SC, in 1951 and the University of Maine at Orono in 1986. After high school graduation she worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Gastonia, NC and Asheville, NC. She married Eben in 1957, and they lived in Asheville, NC, St. Paul, MN and Raleigh, NC before moving with their three young children to Orono, ME in 1963. As their children reached high school, Janice worked at the Orono High School Guidance Office. After graduating from UMaine with a degree in home economics, she worked for the Orono and Bangor middle and high schools. Janice was an active member in the community and an avid gardener, cook, seamstress and book club member. She held several leadership positions with the Penobscot Valley Branch of American Association of University Women. As a member of the Church of Universal Fellowship, Janice served as treasurer, trustee, and in many other ways.

She is survived by her children and their families who she nurtured and loved: Susan Elizabeth Osgood Miller (Timothy) of Atkinson, NH, Kevin Averill Osgood of Orono, ME, and Kenric Eben Osgood (Sharon) of Rockville, MD; six grandsons Evan Miller, Davis Miller, Eric Osgood, Grant Osgood, Mathew Osgood and Forrest Osgood, three great-grandchildren Teddy Miller, McKenna Osgood and Asher Osgood; and three sisters Martha Jane Thomas, Judy Miller and Carolyn Nivens. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by sisters Sarah Burrell, Louise Morgan and Betty Sue Webber, and brother John William Curry.

A celebration of Janice's life will be held 11AM Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. All attending are invited for conversation and refreshments following the service.

During their lives, Janice and Eben established a Scholarship Fund at the University of Maine to ensure that motivated students were given the opportunity to receive an education.
