ORONO - Jane Frances (Cousineau) Trenholm passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026 at Dirigo Pines in Orono, Maine. She was born on May 25, 1932, in Providence, Rhode Island to Arthur Alfred and Marguerite Ethel (Thomas) Cousineau. She lived with her family in Rumford, RI until they moved to Danvers, MA in 1940. Jane graduated from Holten High School in Danvers in 1950 and attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston MA. She worked for several different companies over the years including 23 years as the executive secretary to the president of CMG Information Services in Wilmington, MA.
Jane was introduced to a dashing young Naval man, George Richard (Dick) Trenholm, who won her heart and became her husband in 1955. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage and one daughter, Kathryn Jane. They lived in Stoneham, MA for 57 years. In 2018, Dick and Jane moved to Bangor to be closer to their daughter and her family. They lived at Boyd Place for 8 years and made many new friends. Dick passed in January and Jane moved to Dirigo Pines in August.
While in Stoneham, MA, Jane was active in many organizations including being a Girl Scout leader for her daughter's troop and was a member of St. Patrick's Parish. She participated in the St. Patrick's Food Group for 25 years and knitted many hats and sweaters for the children in Appalachia. She was President of the Stoneham Garden Club, and a member of the Stoneham Historical Society and Friends of the Stoneham Public Library.
Jane and Dick loved to travel and visit friends and family. They attended many Trenholm family reunions in New Brunswick and British Columbia, Canada. They also enjoyed reuniting with old friends at Dick's reunions of sailors from the USS William S. Wood where Dick served.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Kathryn and her husband Rudolph J. Shorette of Bradley ME; her grandson, Daniel Shorette and his wife, Abigail, and her cherished great-granddaughter, Holly, all of Westbrook, ME; her brother-in-law, William Comeau and several nieces and nephews in OH, CT, CO, and NH. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Richard (Dick); sister, Barbara Comeau; brother-in-law, David L. Trenholm and his wife, Anne and their daughters, Marsha Painter and Brenda Gagne.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the New England Wildlife Center, 500 Columbian St. Weymouth, MA 02190. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Brookingssmith.com.
