Jane Evelyn Mcglauflin

March 4, 1929 — October 12, 2019

BANGOR - Jane Evelyn McGlauflin, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2019 at the age of 90. She was born on March 4, 1929 in Presque Isle, Maine, the only child of Ray H. and Viola (Allen) McGlauflin.
Jane attended schools in Bangor, graduating from Bangor High School in 1946. She attended the University of Maine, graduating in 1951 with a BA degree in Medical Technology. In 1984 she received her MA in management from Central Michigan University. Jane was employed in the laboratory at Eastern Maine Medical Center from 1951 until her retirement in 1994. Jane served as the Chief Technologist and Program Director of the Medical Technology Training Program teaching and mentoring the students. Jane was honored when EMMC made her a loaned executive to the United Way of Bangor. Jane was a longtime, very actively involved member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor. She had many happy memories of summer visits with her mother at the Hersey Retreat at Sandy Point. She was an active member of the AUW Guild, serving in many capacities over the years. Jane was a member of the Southern Penobscot Alumnae Association of the University of Maine and was awarded a Block M award for her support and contributions. On August 24, 2014 Jane married her longtime best friend, Bonnie Wood. After her retirement Jane and Bonnie bought a small motor home and traveled to Alaska and made four more trips across the country. Jane loved traveling and visited with her wife the British Isles, Europe, Russia and China. They also cruised up the Dalmatian Coast visiting Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia. Their last trip was to the Normandy beaches and the war memorials in France culminating in a river cruise up the Seine to Paris. Jane enjoyed reading, doing crossword, and jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid coin collector. One of her greatest joys was acquiring a tiny cottage on Herrick Bay in Brooklin. Jane and her wife spent many happy weekends renovating the cottage. Jane was an expert carpenter's helper. Jane really loved cats, she and her mother raised numerous families of kittens that were always in great demand. Jane and Bonnie shared that love of cats and raised three of them together. Jane was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her wife, Bonnie Wood; her cousins, Roger Carroll and his wife, Flora, and children, and her cousin, Carl McGlauflin and daughter, Carlene; Russell Allen and family. Jane was very proud of her heritage as a member of the clan MacLachlan. Those who immigrated from Scotland via Northern Ireland to New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts changed the spelling of their name to McGlauflin and settled not only in New England but traveled West as well. Anyone bearing that name is a relative of Jane's.
